"JESUS SURFS"

The Holy Gospel is taken from the Sixth Chapter of The Gospel of Saint Mark, the often rebellious son of Saint Peter, verses 47-51:

"In the evening the boat was far out on the water. Jesus was alone on the land.

He saw the disciples working hard rowing the boat. The wind was blowing the wrong way. When it was almost morning, Jesus came to the disciples. He was walking on the water. He was going to pass by them.

But when they saw him walking on the water, they thought it was a spirit. They shouted loudly.

They all saw him and were very much afraid. He spoke to them right away.

He said, `Be glad! It is I. Do not fear.'

Then he got in the boat with them. The wind stopped. They were very much surprised and did not know what to say (dude)."

THE RELIGIOUS SIGNIFICANCE OF THE TUNE "MISIRLOU"

"Misirlou”, also spelled “Miserlou”, is loved and claimed by many religious and ethnic groups including Eastern Orthodox, Chassidic Judaism and by the Druze of Southern Lebanon.

Greek Orthodox Church musician Nicholas Roubanis introduced the written score in the 1930s.

Richard Monsour (also known as “Dick Dale, King of the Surf Guitar”), whose father was born in Beirut, Lebanon, along with his group “The Deltones”,  introduced the tune “Misirlou”  to popular audiences in 1962.
